Houston ISD Millionaire Club 2008

Read-Record-Reward

What is the Millionaire's Club?  It is a reading incentive program created to encourage students to read during the summer months. Research shows that teachers typically spend between 4-6 weeks reteaching material that students have forgotten over the summer. Students who read and are actively engage their minds during the summer months do not experience this loss.

How the HISD Millionaire Club works  -  Librarians and teachers work with students to encourage reading over the summer vacation. Students are encouraged to read at least 5 books during the summer months and to turn in a form listing the titles to their school in the fall.  Students who read five books receive a Millionaire Club T-shirt and are eligible for a drawing for tickets to a Houston Dynamos soccer game. Students are also encouraged to participate in the Houston Public Library Summer reading program which requires participants to read ten books to be eligible for a variety of prizes.
